About By The River

Compassionate Home Care in Connecticut

I started By the River after realizing when doing home care visits that often when people stay in their home they are lonely, waiting for the next caregiver or family visitor. It was the best part of their day when I arrived knowing they were not alone. I know that being in your home is a sense of security and pride but it is also taxing. We will provide you with a home filled with love and companionship.

Building this Residential Care home allows a resident to have the best of both world. Companionship daily by 9 other residents that are experiencing the same challenges of living independently. The ability to communicate with others that are facility the same effects of aging, the ability to engage in daily activities, the social aspect of family dining in a large dining room, or sitting independently in the sun filled sun room, reading a book or visiting with family. This is all provided in a compassionate setting with highly trained caregivers with oversight by a geriatric nurse.

A caregiver will be a trained certified nursing home assistant. They will be able to provide you with assistance with medications, bathing and dressing and meals. There is no extra cost associated with the assistance in care, unlike assisted living and retirement communities which charge you extra every time you need a little help. There is no extra cost in meals or activities. Your laundry will be done for you or you have the option of doing it yourself.

Dining is a social event. For most families it promotes a forum to discuss how the day went and what’s happening in the world. At By The River, Marlborough we encourage all the 10 residents to sit together and enjoy a conversation, a laugh, a good home cooked meal with peers and companions that have a lot in common.

Residential Care Home uses the services of several health care agencies to assist with resident care. We work closely with medical professionals and outside agencies such as home health aide services, nursing services, and rehabilitation services.

Residents are encouraged to participate in activity planning, meal planning and general ideas to promote a dignified and enjoyable life. We are dedicated to providing the best possible care for every resident.

We want our residents to feel as though they are family in their home. We strive to help our residents maintain their independence. We realize that moving to a residential care facility is a big move and we will make this transition as smooth and uncomplicated as possible.

Special thanks to Alan Camp for the wonderful photography!
